Extraordinary Congress of the National Liberal Party (PNL) started on Sunday at Romexpo, with the main subject being the election of the new leadership structure.
The current president, Ilie Bolojan, was received with applause and is submitting his candidacy for a new term, having a team formed by Dan Motreanu as first vice president and Robert Sighiartău as secretary general. Among the vice presidents are well-known names such as Mircea Abrudean and Florin Roman.
The congress will also address amendments to the statute, including reducing the number of first vice presidents and creating the National Permanent Bureau. The proceedings are taking place in a context of internal division, with two distinct camps: one around Bolojan and another led by first vice president Adrian Vețea, who is not present at the event. Additionally, PNL members coming from ALDE have announced that they will not participate, contesting Bolojan's decisions.
