PNL MEP Rareș Bogdan harshly criticized former Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan on Tuesday evening, accusing him of mismanaging the country and of distancing the National Liberal Party from government. The statements were made in the context of the PNL entering opposition and the formation of a new government without Liberal ministers.
Rareș Bogdan argued that the party, which has approximately 1,100 mayors, is going through one of the most difficult periods of the past two decades. He stated that, under Bolojan’s leadership, the PNL had ended up “in the dark opposition,” despite having an important network of locally elected officials.
The MEP accused the former prime minister of harming pensioners, Romanian private companies and investments, and of exasperating citizens. Rareș Bogdan also linked to Bolojan’s government the alleged reversal of the ratio between Romanians leaving the country and those returning.
The politician also criticized the change in the PNL’s ideological direction, saying that it had allegedly distanced itself from conservative values and moved closer to the USR. Rareș Bogdan called for a “serious discussion” within the party to analyze the situation and the party leadership.
