PNL MEP Rareș Bogdan publicly attacked the party leader and interim prime minister, Ilie Bolojan, accusing him of “destroying Romania” and of contributing to the increase in the number of unemployed by 100,000 compared with the summer and autumn of 2025.
Rareș Bogdan claims that Bolojan’s only objective would be to bring AUR into government, so that he could subsequently criticize the party and increase his chances of becoming president of Romania. The MEP criticizes the fiscal and economic measures attributed to the government, citing the situation of carriers, the recession in the hospitality industry, difficulties in IT and construction, as well as the low level of stored gas.
In a message containing harsh attacks against the interim prime minister, Rareș Bogdan called him “a doughnut-shop accountant” and reproached him for his lack of economic vision. He stated that Bolojan had allegedly blocked the formation of a legitimate government four months ago and had rejected several options for Liberal ministers.
The MEP also made geopolitical accusations, claiming, without presenting evidence, that changing the PNL leadership and marginalizing former president Nicolae Ciucă would serve to remove American influence from Romania. Rareș Bogdan also criticized the positions he attributes to Bolojan’s progressive allies and referred to the interests of Russia, China and Iran. Bolojan had not publicly responded to the accusations at the time the message was published.
