PNL MEP Rareș Bogdan says that if the government led by Luca Niculescu were to fall, President Nicușor Dan would be pressured to call early elections. He made the statement on Sunday evening on Antena 3, amid tensions within the coalition and internal criticism in the PNL.
Rareș Bogdan said that USR, PNL, part of the UDMR and AUR could create political pressure to organize early elections. If the regular electoral calendar were followed, the elections could not take place, in his view, before February 20 or March 15. The MEP warned that such a period would mean months of deadlock, declining investment and new bankruptcies.
The liberal also said that the PNL and USR are preparing a collaboration he called a “marriage,” but estimated that the two parties would not win 25–28% of the vote together, but approximately 20%, possibly even less.
The statements come after accusations made by PNL Vice President Alexandru Muraru against the Social Democrats and the dissident group within the PNL, amid disputes over the party’s leadership and support for Ilie Bolojan.
