The internal conflict within the PNL is deepening after Luca Niculescu was designated for the position of prime minister. MEP Rareș Bogdan is calling on liberals to abandon the political deadlock and support the formation of a political government, warning that early elections would exacerbate Romania’s instability.
In an appearance on Antena 3 CNN, Rareș Bogdan criticized what he called Ilie Bolojan’s “crusade” and appealed to his party colleagues to stop this course of action. He argued that Romania urgently needs a legitimate government after a five-month period of deadlock.
Rareș Bogdan described Luca Niculescu as a man of dialogue and asked him to negotiate with all relevant political formations. These include the Conservative Platform within the PNL, the PSD and the UDMR, as well as the other pro-European and pro-Euro-Atlantic parties.
The liberal rejected the option of a technocratic government, arguing that Romania needs political ministers capable of understanding the context and assuming responsibility for decisions in Parliament. Niculescu’s designation thus opens a new stage of negotiations, but also a confrontation between the factions within the PNL over the future governing formula.
