Dragoș Pîslaru, the interim minister of Investments and European Projects, announced on Monday, July 13, that the proposal to renegotiate the PNRR has just been approved by the European Commission. He calls on those in PSD not to put Romania's future in danger for their petty political agenda.
"What is good for Romania is not good for PSD:
A good piece of news, exclusively from Brussels: The European Commission has just approved today the proposal to renegotiate the PNRR.
The last step follows: formal approval by the Council of the European Union on August 7.
After months of work to save as many investments and as much European money for Romania, we have reached the point where everything now depends solely on Romania's ability to deliver the promised reforms.
And, unfortunately, this is where the film breaks.
While in Brussels we are achieving fantastic results, in Bucharest, Mr. Sorin Grindeanu announces that PSD will not vote for the salary law and threatens to sabotage the reform regarding integrity in public office.
You cannot claim billions of euros from the European Union and, at the same time, refuse the reforms that Romania has committed to.
You cannot say that you want the PNRR, but reject the milestones in the PNRR.
You cannot applaud European money and sabotage the conditions assumed by Romania to receive it.
And the history of recent years is, unfortunately, very clear:
On unified salary: the reform has been successively postponed and pushed from one payment request to another. Even Mr. Grindeanu admits today that the milestone has been moved from payment request 3 to payment request 6. For years, the reform has not been made. Now, when it must finally be delivered, we are told again: we will not vote.
On integrity in public office, instead of discussing how to strengthen the National Integrity Agency and how to build stronger and more credible institutions, PSD tries to shift the discussion to Dominic Fritz and other individual cases. It is a diversion. The reform is not about one person, one party, or one file. It is about the Romanian state's ability to have clear rules and efficient institutions for defending integrity in public office.
On urban planning reform, Romania has lost entire years in blockages and conflicts regarding the competencies for issuing building permits, including in the dispute between PSD sector administrations and the Capital City Hall. Instead of modernizing the legislation and reducing bureaucracy, local political interests have kept the reform in place.
On decarbonization, again, the reforms have been pushed until the last moment, and Romania has ended up negotiating under the pressure of deadlines and the risk of losing European funds.
In all these years, PSD has practiced the politics of procrastination, always delaying the decision out of fear of not assuming any responsibility.
The government led by Ilie Bolojan has pushed the reforms forward with all its might, we have taken on difficult decisions and have proven that we can have a government and responsible politicians who act in the interest of the country.
The PNRR is not of a party. It is not of a minister. It is not of a government.
It is a plan for the development of Romania:
Highways, hospitals, schools, digitization, energy, modernization of administration, and billions of euros that improve the lives of Romanians.
Therefore, I make a very clear call for responsibility to PSD:
Do not put, gentlemen from PSD, Romania's future in danger for your petty political agenda.
For years you have beaten your chest with concern for the national interest.
Here you have now, finally, the chance to demonstrate how much you love the country and how much you respect Romanians.
Do not sabotage Romania," announces Dragoș Pîslaru on Facebook.
