The interim Minister of Investments and European Projects, Dragoș Pîslaru, accuses PSD and AUR of causing a major risk to the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), after the Senate adopted amendments to the decarbonization law that prohibit the closure of certain coal production capacities before the commissioning of new energy capacities.
Romania has committed through the PNRR to gradually close these power plants by 2032, and this amendment risks compromising the European funds received. Pîslaru accused PSD of a systemic behavior that demonstrates the chaos in the country and emphasized that the amendment is unjustified, as the closure of other capacities was not planned. He warned that adopting it could lead to the loss of payment requests and penalties amounting to hundreds of millions of euros. Pîslaru highlighted that PSD was warned about the consequences of this amendment, which affects Romania's commitments to the European Commission.
