The interim Prime Minister of Romania, Ilie Bolojan, stated that the postponement of the closure of the lignite power plants in Turceni and Craiova could cause losses of up to 100 million euros from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).

These losses add to the 700 million euros already lost due to the failure to adopt the public sector salary law.

Bolojan explained that Romania committed to reducing the capacity of coal power plants in order to receive European funds, but decided to postpone their closure for social reasons, to avoid a lack of heating in Craiova next winter.

Additionally, the Prime Minister mentioned that unfinished projects will lose funding, being shifted from grants to loans with higher interest rates.

Bolojan criticized previous governments for delaying the implementation of necessary reforms, emphasizing that these losses are the result of a lack of responsibility.
