Ukraine and Bulgaria signed a ten-year defense agreement on Monday, announced by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during the visit of Bulgarian interim Prime Minister Andrei Ghiurov to Kyiv. The agreement aims at joint production of weapons, including drones, and Bulgaria's participation in a co-production program. Zelensky emphasized the importance of this agreement for systematizing cooperation in the field of security, considering the rapid developments in the drone sector. Bulgaria, a NATO and EU member, has a vast military-industrial complex, and the defense industry contributes nearly 4% to the national GDP. Ghiurov described the agreement as a joint commitment to Euro-Atlantic security, mentioning opportunities for cooperation in research and technology transfer. Additionally, the two leaders discussed the creation of a gas corridor to connect Greece with other countries in Southeast Europe, which could allow Ukraine to receive approximately ten billion cubic meters of gas per year.
