Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a declaration in Calgary on Thursday committing Canada and Ukraine to establishing a security and economic partnership lasting 100 years.

The document was signed during Zelenskyy’s visit to Canada and marks an expansion of bilateral cooperation at a time when Ukraine is strengthening international support for its defense and reconstruction. The two countries are to determine the details of the long-term partnership.

Canada also announced the release of 350 million Canadian dollars, equivalent to approximately 218 million euros, to provide Ukraine with air defense equipment.

In addition, the government in Ottawa will provide credit guarantees worth more than 430 million Canadian dollars, approximately 268 million euros, for the purchase of gas. The measure is intended to support Ukraine’s energy supplies during the winter.

The announcements come after Kyiv signed a 100-year partnership with the United Kingdom in January 2025.
