The American president, Donald Trump, left Turkey after last month's NATO summit aboard a small military aircraft, a C-32A, after the White House said he would fly on Air Force One, in a move that the Secret Service devised to mislead the Iranians amid a credible death threat, write the Washington Post and New York Times.
Thus, although he was filmed boarding Air Force One, Trump was discreetly transferred with a catering cart to the military aircraft, leaving White House staff and journalists on the presidential plane, unaware that the president was no longer there.
The operation was designed to create the impression that Trump traveled entirely on the presidential plane.
The White House did not comment on the details but emphasized that Trump faces numerous enemies. During the summit, Trump stated that he considers himself "number one" on Iran's blacklist.
