Donald Trump, the President of the United States, declared on Wednesday that he will participate in the NATO summit in Turkey, highlighting his respect for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Trump mentioned that, under normal circumstances, he would not have accepted the invitation, but he was convinced by Erdogan to be present, emphasizing that the United States needs to be there. During a public appearance in Washington, Trump described Erdogan as a "great leader" and "a very strong person," adding that he respected his request not to get involved in the recent escalation of the conflict with Iran.
His favorable comments about Turkey came in the context of criticisms directed at other NATO members, who have been reproached for the lack of logistical support during the conflict with Iran.
