American President Donald Trump has resumed his criticisms of NATO allies, stating that the United States will not provide military support if member states do not contribute accordingly. The statements were made shortly before the NATO summit in Turkey, to which Trump confirmed his participation. In a discussion with the press in the Oval Office, he emphasized that the U.S. has spent considerable amounts on the defense of allies, but they have not supported the American military operation against Iran.

Trump stated that it is "nonsense" for allies to refuse help, suggesting that the U.S. could adopt a similar attitude. Although relations with allies are tense, Trump will attend the NATO summit, which will take place in July, gathering leaders from the 32 member countries.

"We have spent all this money. And then, when we want to receive maybe a little help for a minor issue (...) they say no, we prefer not to help," the American president said during a discussion with the press in the Oval Office.
