The Ministry of Development has announced the adoption of the new Code of Territorial Planning, Urbanism, and Constructions (CATUC), which will come into force next week.
The law, developed by the ministry and adopted by Parliament, aims to strengthen the safety and resilience of the built environment, as well as to integrate sustainability criteria into urban planning.
Minister Cseke Attila emphasized the importance of a preventive approach, which includes monitoring the condition of buildings and holding administrators accountable.
The new legislative framework emphasizes the prevention and maintenance of public interest buildings, such as schools and hospitals, to identify vulnerabilities before they become risks. Additionally, the sustainable development of localities will prioritize mobility, infrastructure, and environmental protection, promoting public transport and favorable conditions for pedestrians and cyclists. Local authorities will play an essential role in adapting regulations to the new objectives, evaluating neighborhood development not only by the number of buildings but also by the quality of public space and its impact on the community.
