Projects A7 and A8 have officially reached the European Commission’s agenda: “Connecting Eastern Romania is a matter of security, cohesion, and European interest”

The HaiCăSePoate Association announced on Wednesday, on Facebook, that the A7 and A8 motorways, as well as the modernization of Moldova’s railway infrastructure, have officially come to the attention of the European Commission. The response was issued as part of Petition No. 1834/2025, through which the organization requested that these projects be treated as European strategic objectives.

The European Commission acknowledged that eastern Romania requires specific attention, in the context of the security situation created by the war in Ukraine. The institution indicated that the investments could benefit from support through the Connecting Europe Facility, cohesion funds, regional funds, and the SAFE mechanism. Projects eligible under the Strategy for Military Mobility could receive additional funding.

However, the association’s representatives emphasize that responsibility for implementation remains with Romania. Ciprian Mitoșeriu, the organization’s president, considers A8 to be of European importance, as it will connect Moldova with the western part of the country, the Republic of Moldova, and Ukraine.

The petition was procedurally closed, but the association says that the initiative achieved a partial victory.

A7 is 453 kilometers long, between Ploiești and Siret, and more than half of the route is open to traffic or under construction.

A8 is approximately 305 kilometers long, between Târgu Mureș and Ungheni, and more than 90% of the route has contracts for design or construction.
