Romania received on Wednesday the first tranche of 2.5 billion euros from the SAFE instrument, announced by the interim Minister of Finance, Alexandru Nazare.

Out of a total allocation of 16.7 billion euros, 4.2 billion euros are intended for dual-use infrastructure, including sections of highways A7 and A8, such as Pașcani-Suceava-Siret and Moțca-Iași-Ungheni.

Nazare emphasized the importance of this funding for the economic and military development of Romania, mentioning that SAFE will allow for long-term financing of defense commitments and will support domestic production. The Ministry of Finance will ensure transparency in the allocation of funds and the implementation of projects, emphasizing that economic stability is essential for national security.

SAFE is part of a broader plan by the European Commission, aimed at investments in the defense sector across the entire European Union.
