In recent days, the Presidential Administration has rejected a false narrative circulating online claiming that Romania is preparing to send troops to Ukraine to take part in the war. Cotroceni Palace says the information is alarmist manipulation intended to fuel the unfounded theory that Romania is being drawn into the conflict.
The President of Romania has asked Parliament to approve the participation of up to 20 military personnel in the Operational Headquarters for the Multinational Force in Support of Ukraine and in its subordinate command and control structures. Romanian troops will not be sent to the front and will not take part in combat operations.
The Presidential Administration says the headquarters is rotational and operates in France and the United Kingdom, on the territory of allied states, thousands of kilometers from the front line. Romanian personnel will be involved exclusively in planning, coordination, command and control activities.
The structure was activated in 2025 as part of the Coalition of the Willing for Ukraine, which seeks to provide political and legal guarantees after a ceasefire agreement is reached. According to the Presidency, Romania’s participation is linked to protecting national and regional security, in the context of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and Romania’s position on the Black Sea.
