The National Audiovisual Council (CNA) fined Realitatea Plus 15,000 lei on Wednesday for several programs broadcast in April and June which, according to the Council, failed to comply with rules on accurate reporting, impartiality and the presentation of opposing viewpoints.
The largest sanction, amounting to 10,000 lei, concerns programs broadcast between April 1 and 27, including “Behind the Scenes of the Parallel State,” “Breaking News,” “Taking Aim at Politicians,” “Morning Plus” and “Open the World.” The CNA found that these programs did not ensure balance or present the main opinions under public debate, as required by the Audiovisual Code.
An additional fine of 5,000 lei was imposed for three programs broadcast on June 17: “The Fight for Romania,” “Prime Time News” and “Behind the Scenes of the Parallel State.” The Council objected to the presentation of certain information and on-screen headlines, including “Magyar–Bolojan Deal over Neptun Deep” and “Bolojan Reached an Agreement with the UDMR in Exchange for Gas,” which it deemed inconsistent with the obligation to provide accurate, verified and impartial information.
At the same meeting, the CNA asked the TikTok and Facebook platforms to take action against certain materials deemed illegal, following complaints it had received.
