PNL and USR notified the Constitutional Court on Tuesday regarding the appointment of the interim leadership of the Romanian Television, liberal deputy Raluca Turcan announced. The opposition maintains that the decision of the reunited Standing Bureaus was made in violation of the law and the CCR’s case law.
According to the liberal and USR deputies, the reunited Standing Bureaus could make interim appointments only if the joint plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate could not convene due to a lack of quorum. PNL and USR claim that there is no evidence that the plenary session was convened and that the meeting could not take place for this reason.
Raluca Turcan accused the PSD-AUR majority of using the procedure to avoid parliamentary and constitutional oversight. In turn, USR deputy Alexandru Dimitriu announced that the party had filed a prior complaint and was preparing an administrative litigation action concerning the interim leaderships of TVR and SRR, should the CCR declare itself incompetent.
The opposition also challenges the previous change in the composition of the Standing Bureaus, which it claims enabled the formation of a majority favorable to the appointments. The move comes after the CCR ruled on the leaderships of the public radio and television institutions.
