Before the complaint filed by USR lawmakers, PNL and USR had also referred the appointment of the interim leadership of TVR and Radio Romania to the Constitutional Court. The opposition argued that the decision of the reunited Standing Bureaus had been taken in violation of the law and the CCR’s case law, maintaining that interim appointments should have been possible only if the joint plenary session of the two Chambers could not convene due to a lack of quorum.
The challenges also concerned the fact that there was allegedly no evidence that the plenary session had been convened and that the meeting could not take place for this reason. Meanwhile, USR announced that it was also preparing an administrative litigation action, depending on the CCR’s response, and the move came after the court declared unconstitutional the previous decisions regarding the leadership of the public radio and television institutions.
