The Constitutional Court of Romania ruled, through Decisions No. 394 and 395 of April 29, 2026, that the appointment acts of the presidents of the Boards of Directors of TVR and Radio Romania cease to have legal effect after the publication of the rulings in the Official Gazette. The decisions concern Parliamentary Decisions No. 45/2025 and 46/2025, which established the compositions of the Boards of Directors of the Romanian Television Society and the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Society. Parliament will have to make new appointments to the positions of president of the Board of Directors from among the members of the new boards of directors.
At TVR, the measure concerns its president and director general, Adriana Săftoiu, appointed on November 26, 2025, with 230 votes in favor and one against. At Radio Romania, it concerns Robert Cristian Schwartz, validated on the same day with 241 votes in favor and two against. The CCR specifies that the decisions do not retroactively affect the votes cast by the boards of directors up to their publication; however, the presidents elected on the basis of the contested configurations cannot continue their four-year terms. The Court ruled following the petition submitted by AUR, which claimed that the distribution of mandates did not respect the parliamentary representation of the parties.
