The river that crosses ten European countries has reached historic lows due to a severe drought, affecting navigation, energy production, and agriculture. Meteorologists do not forecast significant precipitation, and a new heatwave is expected.

In Bulgaria, the remains of a mammoth thousands of years old have been discovered due to the low water level. Additionally, wrecks from World War II have reappeared in Serbia and Croatia.

River transport is severely affected, with cargo ships operating at reduced capacity or suspending routes. In Austria, the decrease in flow has led to a reduction in hydroelectric power production, and the Paks nuclear power plant in Hungary has been shut down due to lack of water.

In Romania, the nuclear power plant at Cernavodă has reduced its activity, and agriculture is affected by drought. Experts warn that these drought episodes could become more frequent due to climate change.
