The former president harshly criticized the current political class and argued that the PSD and AUR could end up governing together. The statement was made on Digi24, in the context of an INSCOP poll in which AUR is credited with 39.7% of voting intentions, PSD with 18.7%, and PNL with 17.8%.
He considers that PSD and AUR come from the same “electoral trunk” and that the formation of a tandem between the two parties is possible at some point. In his opinion, AUR’s rise is also favored by the mistakes of the traditional parties.
Băsescu also criticized the idea of a technocratic government supported by Ilie Bolojan, stating that such an Executive could become “a disaster.” He argued that Bolojan does not have sufficient expertise in the economic field to determine who can be considered a specialist.
The harshest criticism was directed at President Nicușor Dan. Băsescu asked him to quickly designate a prime minister and stated that the head of state should not wait for confirmation of a parliamentary majority before fulfilling his constitutional obligation. He did not rule out snap elections, but categorically rejected the idea of suspending the president, calling it “childish” and an attack on democracy.
