The flow of the Danube was measured at 1,650 m³/s, according to data from INHGA, and hydrologists estimate that it will decrease to 1,600 m³/s at the beginning of August. According to the National Administration "Apele Române", this value is nearly three times below the multiannual average for July, which is 4,750 m³/s.

According to the statement from the National Administration "Apele Române", the situation is similar to that of 2005, when the flow of the Danube decreased to 1,650 m³/s. According to INHGA's forecast, on August 4, the flow could reach approximately 1,500 m³/s, close to the historical minimum from 1985, which was 1,400 m³/s.

For safety reasons, Unit 1 of the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant was shut down in a controlled manner, and the National Administration "Apele Române" has imposed restrictions on irrigation in the Călărași–Cernavodă sector to ensure water supply for Reactor 2 and the population.

According to authorities, the flow rates of rivers in several regions of the country are also maintaining very low values, and drying phenomena have been reported on some watercourses. At the same time, high temperatures and low water levels favor the occurrence of algal blooms, which is why the situation is being monitored continuously.

So far, the drinking water supply for the population is not affected, but authorities warn that the evolution depends on the precipitation regime in the upcoming period.
