The Danube’s flow upon entering Romania, at the Baziaș section, will decrease to 1,400 cubic meters per second during the period September 5–12, 2026, according to the forecast of the National Institute of Hydrology and Water Management (INHGA). This value is far below the multi-year average for September, which is 3,800 cu m/s.
On the first day of the interval, the flow is estimated at 1,450 cu m/s, then it will decrease the following day to 1,400 cu m/s. Hydrologists estimate that it will remain steady until the end of the analyzed period.
Downstream from the Iron Gates, flows will generally decrease slightly. On the Hârșova–Tulcea sector, they will be relatively steady during the first two days of the interval.
For September, the quarterly forecast indicates a maximum Danube flow of 1,800 cu m/s and a minimum of 1,400 cu m/s. The monthly hydrological regime is estimated at values between 30% and 50% of the multi-year averages, with higher levels in the Prahova, upper Buzău, and Ialomița basins.
On inland rivers, flows will generally remain steady, but could increase during the last two days due to the forecast torrential rains. Hydrologists warn that more significant rises are possible on small rivers in hilly and mountainous areas.
The lowest hydrological regime is expected in the basins of the Crișna, Bârlad, upper Siret, the Prut’s tributaries, and Dobrogea.
