INHGA announces low Danube flows at the point of entry into the country, during September 19–26

The Danube’s flow at the country’s entrance, at the Baziaș section, will remain well below the multi-year average for September between September 19 and 26, 2026, according to a forecast issued by the National Institute of Hydrology and Water Management (INHGA). Hydrologists estimate flows of approximately 1,550 cubic meters per second during the first two days, followed by a slight increase to 1,650 cubic meters per second, compared with the monthly average of 3,800 cubic meters per second.

Downstream from the Iron Gates, flows will generally increase. The exception will be the first part of the period, when levels will remain relatively steady along the Brăila–Tulcea sector.

For September, the quarterly forecast indicates a maximum Danube flow of 1,800 cubic meters per second and a minimum of 1,400 cubic meters per second.

On inland rivers, average daily flows will remain relatively steady. However, increases in water levels and flows are possible on some rivers in hilly and mountainous areas, especially in the middle of the period, amid the forecast precipitation and its propagation.

The monthly hydrological regime is estimated at 30–50% of the multi-year averages, with higher values in the Prahova, upper Buzău and Ialomița basins, and below 30% in several basins in the west, east and southeast of the country.
