In the third week of September, the Danube’s flow reached 1,500 cubic meters per second at Baziaș—less than half the monthly multi-year average of 3,800 cubic meters per second. Apele Române Jiu is continuously monitoring the situation amid pressure on water resources.

The forecast issued by the National Institute of Hydrology and Water Management indicates a slight increase, to approximately 1,550 cubic meters per second, but the flow will remain well below the values typical for this period.

Many inland rivers also have flows below their multi-year averages. On the Jiu River, between Iscroni and Zăval, measures have been introduced for certain categories of users. At Rovinari SE, the second level of restrictions applies, while at Turceni SE, the warning-alert phase is in effect.

Three localities in Gorj and two in Dolj have a restricted water supply schedule. At the same time, reservoirs in the south of the country retain significant reserves: the Târgu Jiu, Vădeni and Vija lakes have filling levels of 100%, 90.4% and 87.4%, respectively. At the beginning of September, the 39 major reservoirs had an average filling level of 65.99%.
