Danube flows will remain relatively steady during the first part of the period along the Gruia–Corabia sector and will rise slightly between Turnu Măgurele and Tulcea, according to the hydrological forecast. During the second part of the period, levels are expected to rise slightly along the entire sector between Gruia and Tulcea.
For October 2026, hydrologists estimate that the Danube’s flow at the point where it enters the country will range between 1,200 and 1,600 cubic metres per second. However, levels will remain well below the multiannual averages due to the water deficit.
On inland rivers, average daily flows will generally remain steady. On the first day of the period, they will decrease on rivers in the upper and middle Olt, Vedea, Argeș, Ialomița, Siret and Prut basins, as well as in Dobrogea.
In October, river flows are forecast to reach 30–50% of the multiannual averages. Levels will reach 50–80% in the Vișeu, Someșul Mare, Prahova, upper Olt and Bistrița basins, but will fall below 30% in the Râmnicu Sărat and Bârlad basins and in Dobrogea. Severe hydrological drought contributed to the temporary shutdown of the two reactors at the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant.
