On October 16, inspectors from the Romanian Customs Authority discovered a truck loaded with 5,400,000 untaxed cigarettes, with a total value of 8,100,000 lei (approximately 1.6 million euros). The truck, registered in Poland and belonging to a 'well-known international brand', was driven by a Polish driver who claimed to be transporting food. Following the inspection carried out by the mobile team from Calafat, it was found that the cigarettes were hidden to evade border control. Due to the large quantity, which exceeds the legal limit for an offense, the inspectors notified the prosecutors to take the necessary legal measures.
