In an interview for HotNews, Răzvan Nicolescu, former Minister of Energy, discusses the energy uncertainties that Romania is facing, emphasizing that the main threats come from within, not from outside.

He highlights the problems generated by political appointments, financial blockages, and the lack of responsibility of companies, which take advantage of crises to raise prices: "Unfortunately, some operators do not show concern for their clients, for consumers, especially in emotional periods when they do not miss the opportunity to ask for more money, even though this is sometimes necessary, other times it is not." Nicolescu warns that authorities must be vigilant and avoid measures such as price caps, which can create long-term problems. He also emphasizes the importance of transparent communication from the Government to temper the panic reactions of the population: "Here also comes the responsibility and institutional sobriety of some authorities that must raise their level of vigilance in delicate situations. They must check whether the commercial policies of each involved company are implemented correctly."

Regarding fuel prices, he believes that the increases are influenced by inflation and international quotations, but he expects a decrease in gas prices in the coming months. Nicolescu proposes better interconnections at the European level and a harmonized regulation of the energy market.
