Irineu Darău: "No matter how easy or populist it may be to promise some prices or even to limit them, great care must be taken / You cannot guarantee a price, but you can end up with shortages."

The interim Minister of Economy, Irineu Darău, discussed the increase in fuel prices, emphasizing that there are no quick solutions to this problem. The recently adopted law in Parliament, which introduces a dynamic excise tax, is awaiting promulgation. Darău mentioned that he hopes for price stabilization, especially after resolving the issues in Kazakhstan. He avoided making predictions regarding price decreases, explaining that the new law will prevent excessive profits for both the state and private companies.

The minister warned that capping prices could lead to fuel shortages, emphasizing the need for balanced measures. The draft law provides for a reduction of the excise tax between 5% and 25%, depending on the evolution of prices, with an initial reduction of 10% upon coming into force.
