A violent incident took place on Tuesday in Jerusalem, where a French nun was assaulted by a man, according to CCTV footage released by the Israeli police. The recording shows how the man approaches the nun, throws her to the ground, and while she is on the ground, kicks her, also assaulting a witness who tried to intervene. The police confirmed that the suspect, a 36-year-old Jewish extremist, has been arrested and is charged with racially motivated assault. The French consulate in Jerusalem identified the victim as a nun from the French Biblical and Archaeological School. The director of the institution, Father Olivier Poquillon, condemned the attack, emphasizing that hatred is a common provocation. Reactions from religious leaders were of outrage, describing the assault as a hate crime, repugnant and barbaric. Jerusalem, a city with a complex history of religious coexistence, continues to be the scene of acts of violence.
