A Romanian woman aged 40 was arrested in Taranto, Italy, after she assaulted several women on the street, including a 70-year-old woman who suffered permanent disfigurement. The incident occurred on June 6, 2026, when the suspect, under the influence of alcohol, struck the victim without provocation.
On the same day, two other women were attacked, but they did not suffer serious injuries. Prosecutor Francesca Colaci charged her with 'permanent disfigurement', a crime that can carry a sentence of up to eight years in prison.
Judge Francesco Maccagnano ordered the preventive detention of the Romanian woman, who had already been reported for previous violent behaviors. Although she underwent medical treatment, no psychiatric issues were identified, only a case of chronic alcoholism. The Romanian woman will be brought before the judge to present her version.
