A 38-year-old Romanian man from Legnago, in the province of Verona, was arrested in Italy after his wife reported alleged domestic abuse that had reportedly continued for several years. The incident took place on the evening of October 17, when the carabinieri intervened to protect the woman and the couple’s minor children.
According to VeronaOggi and NTW Press, the man, who was already known to the authorities, allegedly tried to prevent the intervention of the officers who had come to the family home so that the woman and the children could safely collect their personal belongings. During the operation, he reportedly became violent and lunged at the carabinieri.
The officers restrained him and took him to the command headquarters in Legnago. The Romanian man was arrested on suspicion of resisting a public official and was temporarily held in the security cells.
On October 19, the Verona Court confirmed the lawfulness of the arrest and ordered pretrial detention in prison. The court granted the defense time to prepare the case, with the next hearing scheduled for the end of January 2027.
