A 42-year-old Romanian man was arrested by carabinieri in the town of Pratovecchio Stia, in the province of Arezzo, after allegedly breaking into a home and falling asleep in one of the beds. The incident took place during the night of November 3–4, 2026, in Tuscany.
According to information published by Sky TG24, the man, who has a criminal record, had arrived in the area by train to work in construction. He had allegedly initially been looking for a place to stay, but entered a house used by its owners as a second home and located in an isolated area.
After allegedly forcing his way inside, the Romanian searched the rooms and reportedly took several valuable items. He then lay down on a bed and fell asleep. The cold, exhaustion and possible alcohol consumption are among the factors being considered to explain why he remained in the house until morning.
A neighbor noticed that something was wrong and alerted the carabinieri. The officers found the suspect asleep and arrested him on suspicion of residential burglary. The man is being assisted by lawyer Stefano Arrighi. On November 5, the judicial authority was due to decide whether to validate the arrest and impose any precautionary measure.
