The administration of President Donald Trump is taking steps to assume a more active role in controlling the launch of advanced artificial intelligence (AI) models, determining who can have access to them.
Until now, companies like OpenAI and Anthropic decided the partners and clients who could test their models. Recently, the administration temporarily blocked access to the AI models developed by Anthropic, citing national security reasons, but restored access after negotiations. Additionally, OpenAI announced that it would limit access to its new models only to "trusted partners."
The White House has also launched the Gold Eagle program, aimed at collaborating with the private sector to identify cybersecurity vulnerabilities.
This move comes in the context of intensifying global competition in the field of AI, with startups from China developing competitive models. The former White House official for AI, David Sacks, warned that these measures could affect innovation and the competitive advantage of the United States in this field.
