Following talks in Istanbul, Russia and Ukraine agreed to continue the exchange of prisoners of war, with each side releasing at least 1,200 detainees. Moscow proposed temporary ceasefires to evacuate the wounded and recover bodies, while Ukraine suggested a meeting between Presidents Zelenski and Putin by the end of August. Direct negotiations have resumed with the aim of ending the conflict and improving humanitarian conditions in the area.
