The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has made a surprising proposal, requesting a ceasefire valid along the entire front line. This was announced by presidential advisor Mykhailo Podoliak, who specified that Zelensky is willing to meet personally with the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, to discuss the details of the proposal.
The ceasefire would include the cessation of attacks on energy infrastructure and the halting of military operations. Although several rounds of negotiations have taken place since the beginning of the war in 2022, all have failed. Previous mediation attempts, including those initiated by former U.S. President Donald Trump, did not lead to concrete results, and the attention of the Trump Administration subsequently turned to other international crises. This new ceasefire proposal could open a window of opportunity for the resumption of dialogue between the two parties.
