Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday, 03.09.2026, at an economic forum held in Russia’s Far East, that there is a chance to end the war in Ukraine, while Kyiv announced a possible “new dynamic” in diplomatic efforts. Putin said that the United States, China and other countries are willing to support a peaceful solution, but stressed that an agreement must ultimately be reached by Russia and Ukraine.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said in Kyiv that the active phase of political and diplomatic engagement in several capitals could revive negotiations. He did not, however, provide details about any concrete progress.
Contacts between Moscow and Kyiv continue, according to Putin, mainly through intelligence channels. The last meeting as part of the United States-mediated negotiations took place in February, and since then both sides have intensified their long-range attacks and attacks on maritime targets.
The Russian leader said that Ukrainian attacks on commercial vessels and warnings about risks to civil aviation complicate the prospects for an agreement. Kyiv says it is targeting only Russian military objectives. In this context, India said it was ready to contribute to peace efforts.
