Catania Airport has suspended arrivals again due to volcanic ash emitted by Mount Etna

Arrivals at the airport in Catania, Sicily, were suspended again on Monday due to the volcanic ash cloud from the ongoing activity of Mount Etna. The measure was announced by SAC, the company that operates the airport, and was to remain in effect until 16:00 local time, or 14:00 GMT.

Etna, the highest and most active volcano in Europe, frequently causes disruptions to air traffic in the area. This summer, ash emissions have been particularly intense, affecting thousands of travelers.

Landings at Catania airport were also recently suspended, on August 10 and then two days later. The resumption of operations depends on the development of volcanic activity and the level of ash in the atmosphere.
