Germany became on Wednesday the first country in Europe to implement the Arrow air defense system, developed by Israel Aerospace Industries, designed to intercept medium-range ballistic missiles, such as Russian missiles. The Arrow system, which operates at altitudes of over 100 km and has a range of 2,400 km, complements the existing German defense, including the Patriot and IRIS-T systems.
The German Minister of Defense, Boris Pistorius, emphasized the importance of this system for the protection of the population and infrastructure, stating that Germany is thus strengthening its role within NATO. The Arrow system will be fully operational by 2030 and will be installed in three strategic areas of the country. Germany acquired this system in 2023 for 3.6 billion euros, considering Russian missiles a major threat.
