The United States has approved the sale of Tomahawk cruise missiles to Germany, announced Chancellor Friedrich Merz in the Bundestag, without specifying the date of deployment.

This decision was made in the context of the NATO summit in Ankara, aiming to cover a strategic gap in Germany's defense. Merz mentioned that, in parallel, Germany is working on developing its own European defense systems. Although the deployment of the missiles had been planned earlier, tensions with former American President Donald Trump generated uncertainties.

Merz emphasized that the deployment of Tomahawk missiles is essential for deterring Russia, considering that Moscow has deployed Iskander missiles in Kaliningrad. He also highlighted that Europe currently lacks its own defense capabilities of this type, being dependent on the USA. This sale is considered an important step in strengthening European security.
