Cătălin Drulă calls for snap elections: “A technocratic government would be a PSD government”

Deputy Cătălin Drulă, former leader of the USR, says early elections are the solution to the political deadlock and to forming a stable parliamentary majority. He rejects the option of a technocratic government, which he says could become a “surrogate” PSD government, allowing the party to avoid taking responsibility for the Executive’s decisions.

Drulă said in a Facebook post that a technocratic government would not resolve the crisis and would perpetuate the “dilution of responsibility” that led to the current situation. In his view, if a government backed by a majority cannot be formed, the natural course of action is to hold early elections.

The deputy says the deadlock has lasted 81 days, since the government led by Veștea was rejected in a vote. He believes a new prime minister must be nominated and appear before Parliament for an investiture vote. If the nominee secures the necessary support, Romania will have a government; otherwise, early elections would be triggered, according to his argument.

The PNL is also cautiously considering the idea of a technocratic government. Liberal leader Robert Sighiartău said the party could consider such a formula only if the Executive were made up of independent professionals who are not subordinate to political parties.
