UDMR spokesperson Csoma Botond said on Friday that the most viable solutions for ending the political deadlock are the formation of a PNL-UDMR-USR government, approved by the PSD, or a minority PSD government without the support of extremist parties.

He made the statements on RFI, amid interim dismissed Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan’s proposal for a truce government made up of a prime minister and technocratic ministers. Csoma Botond rejected this option, arguing that an exclusively technocratic executive would have difficulty securing parliamentary majorities for important projects.

The leader of the UDMR deputies reaffirmed that the party would not vote for a government including AUR, S.O.S. România or parliamentarians originating from these parties. He described the situation as a “total deadlock” and rejected the idea that the UDMR was responsible for bringing the PSD closer to AUR.

Csoma Botond did not rule out snap elections being held within the next three to four months if negotiations fail. However, he warned that the election would not solve the underlying problem, as AUR could strengthen its position while centrist parties would remain fragmented. The statement comes after the government was dismissed on May 5 and amid negotiations to form a new majority.
