Csoma Botond, leader of the UDMR parliamentary group in the Chamber of Deputies, said Monday on Digi24 that, under the current circumstances, the party cannot join a government alongside the PSD. He made the statement ahead of a new round of consultations at Cotroceni Palace to designate a candidate for the position of prime minister.
Asked whether the UDMR could be part of a government together with the Social Democrats, Csoma Botond replied: “I believe not. We cannot be part of it.”
The UDMR parliamentary leader justified his position by referring to the party’s involvement in the current government arrangement. He recalled that the UDMR supported the proposal and the minority government that became an interim government, and that the party remains part of this structure.
Csoma Botond also said that the UDMR, together with the PNL and USR, proposed Siegfried Mureșan for the position of prime minister. In this context, he ruled out the party immediately joining a government alongside the PSD.
The UDMR leader’s statements come amid political negotiations on forming a new government, after the current government became an interim administration. The consultations at Cotroceni Palace are expected to determine the next candidate for prime minister and possible forms of parliamentary support.
