UDMR President Kelemen Hunor explained Monday evening on TVR why the party did not join the government alongside the PSD and independent ministers. The Union's leader says the decision was determined by moral considerations and by the fact that nothing essential had changed in the three weeks since the previous government was dismissed.
Kelemen Hunor recalled that UDMR was removed from government in May through a no-confidence motion supported by the PSD and AUR. Subsequently, the party requested an investiture vote for a government formed by the PNL, USR, and UDMR, led by Siegfried Mureșan, but the proposal was not adopted.
In this context, the UDMR leader stated that it would have been “almost impossible, from a moral standpoint,” for the party to quickly switch from one political formula to another without any changes or exceptional events having occurred in the meantime. “You have to take a break,” Kelemen Hunor said.
He specified that UDMR had not even held negotiations with the PSD to return to government, because it had no arguments for moving “from one side to the other” within such a short interval.
