Kelemen Hunor, after Siegfried Mureșan presented the UDMR governing program: “There are no extravagant things” / What he says about the chances of bringing the PSD into the government

UDMR leader Kelemen Hunor announced that the party is determined to continue negotiations with designated Prime Minister Siegfried Mureșan on the governing program, the structure and the list of the future Cabinet, despite the uncertainty regarding securing a majority to pass the PNL-USR-UDMR government, “because we have to show seriousness and predictability”.

On Wednesday, Mureșan presented the main directions of the program to the PNL parliamentary group, which Kelemen Hunor said does not include “extravagant measures”.

The document is expected to cover a two-year mandate, with an emphasis on reducing the budget deficit, taxation and stimulating the economy. The UDMR leader stressed that economic growth is necessary to reduce the deficit and maintain living standards.

According to Hunor, the UDMR supports the inclusion of provisions concerning the Salary Law, the adoption of the 2027 budget and the indexation of pensions in the same year.

For the time being, the UDMR leader said, the structure of the Government and the list of ministers have not been discussed, with negotiations on these matters set to begin.

Asked whether he expected a positive result following the discussions between PSD President Sorin Grindeanu and PNL President Ilie Bolojan, Hunor stressed that “the door must be left open between the PNL and the PSD”.

“You have to leave all doors open for dialogue, both for tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, with those forces with which one can discuss fairly, predictably and in the interest of every citizen and every community. And I believe that the PSD falls into this category. Given everything that has happened since April or May between the PNL and the PSD, the door must be left open, because if this government does not pass, another step will follow. And then, once again, dialogue will be needed. Politics cannot be conducted without dialogue. This does not mean that you have to love the other person; we look for love elsewhere, but dialogue must be maintained. And we will see what the outcome of the discussions between Bolojan and Grindeanu will be,” Kelemen Hunor stated.
