UDMR President Kelemen Hunor announced that the party’s leaders will meet on Thursday with prime minister-designate Luca Niculescu to discuss the governing program and the formation of the future executive. UDMR maintains that the immediate priority is the installation of a fully empowered, functioning government, while the party’s participation in government is, at this point, a secondary matter.
The party wants the program prepared by Luca Niculescu to emphasize the economic component and include measures to support vulnerable people. The requests include indexing pensions so that they keep pace with rising costs, as well as protecting the rights of minority communities, an issue considered essential for the Hungarian community.
Kelemen Hunor stated that UDMR is insisting on the rapid formation of the new government, citing the fact that people’s patience has reached its limit. The party leader specified, however, that there is a red line: UDMR will not support the formation of a governing majority with the support of the AUR and SOS parties.
The prime minister-designate announced that he is working on the governing program and preparing for consultations with the political parties. He stated that he would analyze the priorities and proposals submitted by each party.
