President Kelemen Hunor stated on Monday that he had signed a political agreement with Prime Minister-designate Luca Niculescu, and that the UDMR supports the investiture of the government under clear conditions: respect for minority rights and support for education in the Hungarian language.
“I signed a political agreement with Prime Minister-designate Luca Niculescu.
We support the investiture of the government under clear conditions: respect for minority rights and support for education in the Hungarian language. Thus, we want every child to be able to study in their mother tongue, from kindergarten through university, and for the necessary funds, sufficient teaching staff, and textbooks in the Hungarian language to be available. The government must also support the operation of our cultural institutions.
The UDMR will not have ministers in the government. In the Parliament of Romania, we will actively support the government's work on the matters and under the conditions we have agreed upon.
We have already reached an agreement on supporting this year's budget rectification and adopting the state budget for 2027. In both cases, we insist that local administrations have the funds necessary for their operation. Next year's budget must also support investments in order to stimulate the economy.
For us, it matters that the country function, that we find solutions to people's problems, and that we provide the necessary support to local communities,” the UDMR president wrote on Facebook.
