Designated Prime Minister Luca Niculescu announced Thursday evening that he had held talks with representatives of PSD, PNL and UDMR to identify a governing formula that would unblock Romania’s political and economic crisis. He said all three parties agree to comply with the fiscal and economic framework assumed by the country.
The consultations addressed the main directions of the future governing program, including issues in healthcare, agriculture and local administration, as well as social inequalities. Niculescu said Thursday’s meetings represented the first stage of the dialogue, during which the parties presented their positions.
The designated prime minister said that his role and that of his team is to select and harmonize the best proposals from the political parties’ programs. He emphasized that he had noticed openness to responsible governance and to finding a common solution.
The consultations will continue on Monday, when Niculescu is due to meet with representatives of USR and the other parliamentary groups. He expressed confidence that the negotiations will, this time, lead to a favorable outcome for Romania.
